My First Year at Grapevine Event Management

I started working for Grapevine Event Management a year ago today and I cannot even begin to tell you all about the invaluable things I have learnt and experiences I have had the pleasure of being a part of.

This being said, I thought I would take this opportunity to share with you my top 4 ultimate essentials I have learnt to ALWAYS have to hand on every event day.

Whether you’re an event prof just breaking out into the industry or been in the business for years, I think we can all agree that these items are crucial to every event to help get the job done right.

1) Obvious Essentials

I don’t know about you, but whenever I went back to school after a long summer holiday, I was always excited about starting afresh with a new load of stationary. Each event day, I have learnt that you need to think back to when you filled your backpack with the new school year essentials - Safety pins, Blu tac, all types of tape, scissors, pens, pencils, USB, highlighters, a Sharpie are all essentials for an event day.

2) Flat shoes

Let’s be honest, we’ve all said ‘I’ll be fine’ in a pair of heels, yet you’ve always regretted it after running around checking everything is in order at the beginning of the night. Yet every time, you resort to taking them off for a bit of relief. Therefore I have learnt that it is always a good idea to have a cute, but comfy pair of flats in your tool kit to stick on.

3) Phone Charger

In this day of age, almost everything is done using our phones and without one on event day can be catastrophic. We use our phones to post event updates on social media, stay in touch with colleagues at opposite ends of a venue, check our emails – especially for those inevitable names changes 1 hour before an event starts – and so much more. That’s why I think it is always a good idea to have a spare phone charger to hand.

4) Deodorant

Sometimes, when it comes to event day you can find yourself working right through to the minute the guests start arriving, leaving you no time to put yourself together. Therefore, I have learnt that it is always a good idea to have a travel sized deodorant in your tool kit - especially if you find yourself reaching over tables!

The past year has been very exciting and a learning curve after university and I am looking forward to see all the things I get up to in the next year.
