Happy Birthday Lorna and happy 3 months!

As well as celebrating Lorna’s birthday we also want to celebrate her first 3 months at Grapevine on the Kickstart scheme. Read about how she is finding it so far:

“My first 3 months here at Grapevine have been so fulfilling. Having not encountered a role in marketing before, I was excited to dive head first into the events industry.

I officially started in October and since then have been fortunate to work on a number of events, given these difficult times. Working as a Marketing and Events assistant has allowed me to challenge myself from getting out of my comfort zone and embarking on a new career path. I have most definitely improved my time management skills since working at Grapevine through handling different social platforms, as well as my communication skills through various networking events.

The Cardiff Business Awards, back in November, was one of my first events that I worked on. On the run up to the awards, I was helping to welcome shortlisted companies to their interviews at Cardiff Castle. This was exciting to me as I was able to speak to a lot of the finalists and get their insight into how beneficial winning an award like this would be for their business. On the night of the awards, I remember being excited yet apprehensive to work on such a prestigious event at City Hall. I helped to welcome guests, made sure the room was set-up correctly as well as live tweeting throughout the night on various social pages. I have also undertaken similar roles on other events with Cardiff Business Club, registering guests and making sure everything is running smoothly from start to finish. It is incredibly rewarding when an event runs as smoothly as you hoped it would, especially after months of crucial planning.

The last 3 months have been a big learning curve and has given me an insight into how much planning goes into the events industry. I have immersed myself into the world of marketing and events, having thoroughly enjoyed the process and learning from my mistakes as I go. I have learnt to not be afraid to ask questions and to know that practise makes perfect.   I look forward to the foreseeable here at Grapevine and to what lies ahead this year. “
